Ryton - Molten Magnets - 3/2/2024

Today saw a very early start for almost all the team, some leaving home at 4am to get to Ryton where Molten Magnets were hosting their first indoor tournament at Ryton Sports Centre, Coventry.

We knew we were going to be busy today as we were running 4 open teams and 1 foundation team. However we had an awesome day.

Aztec Warriors (Blue, Lottie, Bessie and Jessie) were first in, in Division 1, winning their first 2 races against Trailblazers and Rockin and hitting a new time of 17.70s. The afternoon session saw us winning against Coventry but losing to our friends Molten Meteors, although we did take them to 5 heats and gave them a run for their money. We came home with 2nd place today with Aztec smashing their new seed time from Oakridge out of the park a total of 7 times and ending up with a new club record of 17.66s. Blue also ran a pb today of 4.02s and he and Gemma managed 2 rolling starts.

Wash Warriors were next up Div 2 (Pip, Stan, Zarah and Indie) and fought well all day winning 4 out of their 5 races. The club got their own back on Moltens with Wash beating Molten Metals in the 4th race of the day. Their fastest time was 19.77 today and they came away with a 1st place again, making this 2/2 for 2024.

Viking Warriors were in Div 3 with Flo, Bonnie, Willow, Maggie and Charly. They won 2/3 races in the morning and 1/2 in the afternoon and came away with a 3rd place in the division. Maggie and Flo ran all day with the other 3 sharing the remaing spots throughout the day. Their fastest recorded time was 21.66s today. Maggie was awarded her flyball dog award at presentation having gained 1000 points so far, well done Maggie, we're glad to see you enjoying yourself.

Eddie went into a team on his own, with Jack as his stooge and he pulled it out of the bag. He had an awesome day running 4.0s all day, Claire even got a roller!! We have definitely turned a corner with him and are now building him slowly up now to become a full Aztec team member.

We also had Mabel and Scout in Brave Warriors foundation team. Mabel once again holding her ball. It was Scout's first time in the ring, she was there just for atmosphere experience, first two races she was doing run backs and she was awesome, she found all the other dogs much more interesting but when asked to work she came up trumps. The second two races in the afternoon Scout was working on chute turns for a ball. The dogs in the other lane were much more interesting but we did manage to get 5-6 good turns taking the ball.

We now have a quiet period where we can concentrate on training before Epworth mid April.

Well done to all our club members and dogs for a really good day and another leap forward for the club.
